Lance Johnston Wins 2024 Open Futurity Championship at 8th Annual Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity
The Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity, Derby & Horse Show doubled in size in its eighth year, marking a record-breaking year for the event, which ran Sept. 9-15, 2024. The cow horse tradition was held at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Event Center with reined cow horse trainers, owners, non pro competitors, western trade show vendors and cow horse enthusiasts making their annual trek to Reno, Nev. for the triathlon of the western world.
“This year’s Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity felt like Reno back in the day. We grew exponentially from last year, and a lot of our growth this year is credited to the addition of our derby,” said John Ward, from Tulare, Calif. and one of the founders of the Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity. “The arena at the Livestock Event Center has always been a great place to show snaffle bit futurity horses, and the weather in Reno in that early part of September is great. We’re excited to see the event continue to grow in the future.”
The 2024 Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity was presented by major sponsors, Scooter Kat, SC Ranch Co., Inc., Rancho La Loma, JJ Fisher Construction and VisitRenoTahoe.com. In addition to payouts, top finishers in the futurity and derby divisions and horse show classes received trophy buckles made by Skyline-Vaquero Silversmiths, and awards sponsored by Classic Equine, Triple Crown Feed, Big D Products, Santa Cruz Animal Health/UltraCruz, Platinum Performance, The Chap Lady, Hats By Claudia, Cuttin Up Show Blankets and Stable Mix – Elk Grove Milling.
